The Zawadi Africa Education Fund is a scholarship program that seeks to help outstanding females from underprivileged communities in Africa pursue their undergraduate studies by offering them scholarships to study in the US or Africa.

About the Award:

The Zawadi Africa Education Fund seeks to promote leadership by offering scholarships to financially disadvantaged African females with high academic achievement with the view of securing the future of young female African leaders.

This education fund operates under the belief that it is important to provide young African women with quality education and equip them with leadership skills. The long-term objective being that these young women return to their home countries to participate in the development of their communities and give a voice to women.

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

⦁ The applicant must be a female that has completed the secondary school examination
⦁ The applicant must have high academic achievement (A or A minus)
⦁ The applicant must have experience as a leader (in school, church, peer-related activities, etc.)
⦁ The applicant must have dealt with hardships in order to complete her education with excellent results.
⦁ The applicant must be financially disadvantaged and display clear financial need.

Selection Criteria:

The selection process will be conducted on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, potential for leadership, and financial need.

The decision of admission will depend entirely on the admission boards of individual universities. The candidates that will be shortlisted will be contacted for an interview a month after the application deadline.

How to Apply:

Eligible candidates should make sure that they complete the following steps to apply. Applicants should keep in mind that incomplete applications are grounds for immediate disqualification.

⦁ Provide a passport photo.
⦁ Attach a one-page, typed biography. The biography should provide information on the applicant’s family, educational background, aspirations, financial status, and any hobbies and activities that the applicant had taken part of in school or within her community.
⦁ Provide a 500-650 word essay on one of the three topics listed.
⦁ Provide a copy of the high school degree certificate, the high school results, and certificates displaying the student’s involvement in extra-curricular activities.
⦁ Provide a signed recommendation letter from a teacher.
⦁ Provide a copy of the ID card.
⦁ Provide a letter from the local chief confirming that he is knowledgeable about the applicant and the applicant’s family written on government letter headed paper.
⦁ Applicants should be aware that any omissions, falsities, or forgeries will lead to disqualification.
⦁ Applicants should make sure to submit a hard copy of the application form along with the required documents by the deadline to the designated offices.
